BUILT FROM THE GROUND UP
Tax Free Records was founded in Rockford Illinois by a group of artists and producers who were tired of watching talent get swallowed by deals that stripped ownership and creative control. The name says it all — no cuts, no compromises, no middlemen taking what isn't theirs.
What started as a recording collective in a rented basement studio grew into a full independent label with a roster, a studio, and a distribution network built entirely on the label's own terms. Every release on Tax Free is owned by the artist who made it.
We operate out of Rockford Illinois but the music moves everywhere. Hip-hop, R&B, rap, soul — the only rule is that it has to be real.
